Welcome to the AFL Senior Secondary Resource

Australian Football has been around since 1858 when the first recognised game was played between Melbourne Grammar School and Scotch College, in Melbourne.

Tom Wills and Henry Harrison, two of Australian Football's 'founding fathers', could not have imagined the impact of the game they developed 'to keep cricketers fit during winter'.

Australian Football, or Aussie Rules, as some call it, has become an important part of Australia's cultural heritage, touching many aspects of social, commercial as well as sporting life in this country.

This website provides an opportunity to engage Years 11 and 12 students nationally through a focus on Australian Football, while at the same time meeting the rigorous curriculum requirements of five learning areas: Media Studies, Business Studies, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, and English.

I am sure that you, as teachers, whether familiar or not with the details of the game, will be equally engaged using the units of work on this resource.
