After
making his AFL debut in round eight 2004, Symes had to wait another 44
matches before gaining his second taste for Port Adelaide. That came in
round four when he gained 22 touches in a thrilling win over St Kilda.
The defender also shone against the Saints later in the year - in round
16 - when he claimed 33 disposals and 17 marks. But Symes also had an
interrupted 2006, having had his appendix removed, while an adductor
injury finally ended his year after round 18. Still, he was a
vastly-underrated performer in his 12 matches this year.
