The National's AFL Rising Star Medal is given to the most promising young player in the AFL over the course of a season.
Players need to have played 10 games or less at the start of the season
to be eligible and must be aged 21 or younger before the start of the
season. Like the Brownlow Medal, they cannot have been suspended by the
AFL or a State League tribunal during the course of the season.
The medal has been a fixture of the AFL since 1993 and among the
winners are Nathan Buckley, Ben Cousins, Adam Goodes Justin Koschitzke
and Nick Riewoldt.
