Round 6 - Michael Osborne
The Queenslander was one of the surprise packets at Glenferrie Oval in
2003. Placed on the rookie list after being given a taste of senior
football late in 2001, Osborne was promoted to the senior list at the
start of the season following the delisting of Glen Bowyer. He was used
predominantly as a small defender and added a real hardness to the
Hawthorn side after being included in round three. Osborne was
nominated for the National AFL Rising Star award following his
performance against Carlton in round six. Playing up forward, he had 14
disposals and took five marks. Osborne won three votes from the Rising
Star selectors.
