Round 20 – Leigh Montagna
Leigh Montagna was the nominee for his three majors against Carlton in round 20. Prior to that, he kicked three goals against the Kangaroos in round 16 and two against the West Coast Eagles in round 18. The 19-year-old’s ability to kick running goals off the wing for Vic Metro first attracted recruiters to him during the 2001 National AFL Under-18 Championships. He was St Kilda’s fourth selection in the draft that year, which also saw Luke Ball, Xavier Clarke and Nick Sal Santo become Saints.
