Round 11 – Daniel Wells
The second selection in last year’s National Draft, Wells was nominated
after just his seventh senior match against Richmond in round 11.
Expectations were high for the midfielder, and though he spent five
weeks out of the seniors Wells played every match for the Roos after
round nine. Lightly framed, the West Australian teenager demonstrated
over the season that he is as prepared to brilliantly evade opponents
as he is to lay fierce tackles. Wells is athletic and quick, supremely
skilled and a good decision-maker. He finished fourth in the 2003
Rising Star voting with 11 votes.
